Proposal Bisnis Lapak

Proposal Bisnis Lapak

How To Prepare Children To Read

How To Prepare Children to Read

The success on how to prepare the children to read is dependent on the following factors:

  1. Oral competence in the English language.
  2. Auditory discrimination.
  3. Physical, social and emotional development; and
  4. Visual discrimination.

The more competent the child is at the oral language, the easier it is for the child to pick up reading. Thus, preparing children to read in any language is a necessity. Teaching a five-year old to read with understanding is a near impossible task, unless it is the language spoken at home or in the kindergarten. A child cannot understand why he must study a language he has not heard of and is not the language is a prerequisites before teaching him to read.

All languages are made on the different pitches in our vocal cords and thus each language will have its own sounds and rhythm. To develop a child’s auditory sense in any language, encourage the singing and saying of rhymes in the language concerned. Children love to do these as they are repetitive and fun to learn. These activities stimulate auditory memory and help in the auditory acuity as the various pitches and rhythm of the languages are more distinct than in speech or in reading.

A child must be given the opportunity to develop cognitively, socially and emotionally through play to build up his self-esteem and confidence. A scared child is unlikely to be attentive or allow himself to be put in a situation he is unfamiliar with. Thus in some cases, you will find a child unwilling to attend kindergarten or school. Every child also learns concentration when he is acquiring motor skills such as climbing, running between rungs, losing and catching a ball.

Through play a child also learns to interact with other children. All these help in the physical, social and emotional development of a child, besides stimulating his mind and creativity.

Lastly, each child must be exposed to the written form of the language even before he can be taught to read. Thus, reading to a child and having alphabets displayed in a book or other ways in the house, stimulate him to ask about the printed letters and encourage him to read. At age three, the child is able to focus on big colorful illustrations. So use them to increase the child’s vocabulary, in terms of identifying objects and things that are not abstract. At this point, workbooks or toys which deal with visual discrimination such as matching pictures, identifying shapes and colors can be used. Gradually, work towards the visual discrimination of all the letters in the alphabet.

It can be said that the implementation of the pre-reading exercise as mentioned above determines and ensure the success of any child reading fluently and with comprehension. It is therefore important for the teacher to establish the above requirements before embarking on the reading program.
